PERMA is a membership association that partners with public entities throughout New York state to provide comprehensive workplace safety and risk management solutions as well as Workers’ Compensation coverage.
Serving over 280 fire departments and districts, each member organization is assigned a dedicated team from PERMA. All claims are handled using nurse-driven case management model with our RN Patient Advocates, who can help implement transitional duty programs that reduce costs by returning injured employees safely to work in less time.

Above & Beyond
PERMA offers unique programs and grant opportunities to provide members with additional value and access to important resources for their firefighters.
Turnout Gear Washer & Dryer Grant
In partnership with NYSAFC, PERMA awards grants to departments for the purchase of a special gear washer & dryer which cleans carcinogens from turnout gear without compromising the equipment.
Since the program’s inception, PERMA has provided more than $145,000 of equipment to PERMA & NYSAFC members across 32 Departments.
Cross Functional Training
PERMA and NYSAFC continuously collaborate on risk management programming with subject matter experts relevant to both memberships, such as rehabilitation guidance, safe patient lifting techniques, interactive emergency vehicle operation and more.
Public Safety Risk Management Specialist, Pete Frisoni, is available to consult with departments on improving operational safety. His 31-year career in law enforcement, including eight years as a Chief uniquely qualifies him to provide valuable guidance to our members. He has served on the board of NYSACOP and as president of the Northeastern Chiefs of Police Conference. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Marist College.
